Situation and needs of Christian education in Zambia 20 March 2014

Driestar educatief and Woord en Daad want to get more insight in the needs and opportunities for improvement of Christian education worldwide.

This project plan is part of the lectorate of Christian Teaching from Driestar educatief. Woord en Daad is participating in this lectorate. Both organisations are involved in the promotion and support of Christian Education worldwide.

They want to get more insight in the needs and opportunities for improvement of Christian education worldwide. During the first year of this project literature has been summarized about Christian education worldwide. This study resulted in a model which shows the aspects which influence and characterize Christian education, such as: political, religious, economical etc.

The model also displays a general overview of characteristics about the school; such as worldview, students, teachers, curriculum. Those points can vary from other schools, even in the same region.

Part two of this project is a case-study. There has been chosen for the country Zambia. Last september, we visited schools in Lusaka and in the surroundings. There we spoke with teachers, pupils, schoolleaders and other educational experts. Based on these interviews and visits, we composed a questionnaire about different schoolaspects. The purpose of these questionnaire is to get more insight in the situation and the needs of Christian education in Zambia.

For the distribution of the questionnaires we worked with our contactpersons in Zambia. We are very grateful to them for the distribution and the entering of the data of all the questionnaires; it’s a number of 104! At this moment we worked on the analysis of the data. After that we will finish our report and present it to interested organisations.
