Wonderfully made: questionnaire shows shared needs On 13 June 2018

There is a need for materials and training with regard to sexual and relationship education form a Christian perspective. This conclusion comes from the results of the questionnaire we shared earlier this year. We would like to share some of the responses and inform you about the following steps in this project.

Wonderfully made is a teaching curriculum for sexual and relationship education with Christian values. In the Netherlands several editions are available for primary education, secondary education and special education. We would like to share our knowledge and experience with other countries.

Respons

Almost 30 partners, coming from different organizations, schools and churches all over the world responded to our questionnaire. We could conclude that there is a need for materials and training with regard to sexual and relationship education form a Christian perspective. Respondents mentioned the need for more knowledge and more skills to talk about these intimate issues. There is little experience in collaborating with parents on this theme.

“Students need to be better informed about sexuality from a Christian perspective” (Germany)

“Children and youth are being exposed to many risks, from the vulnerable context they grow up in as well as from media and social networks” (Colombia)

Youngsters really need to learn about how to build good and healthy relationships” (Portugal)
“[There is a] lack of good sex education that teaches young people what constitutes sexual violence, that sexual violence is wrong, and how to find help if they have been assaulted.”  (Kenya)

Documents in English and Spanish

Various respondents requested more insight in the materials and training of the Wonderfully Made curriculum. Therefore, we have been writing and translating more information in English and Spanish. This document outlines our vision of the Wonderfully Made curriculum and training. It describes the core and outline of related materials. Furthermore, the document contains some translated lessons as well as our guidelines for the development and implementation of new products. In the coming weeks we will make these documents free available on our website. If you are interested, please send an e-mail to p.m.vandergouwe@driestar-educatief.nl.

Next steps

From this stage onwards we would like to work on the development of products translated and customized to various contexts. We already started to make some project plans together with partners form different countries. When you are interested in the development of materials and training for the context of your school or project or if you have any remarks or questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Please find more information about the curriculum on our websites in EnglishSpanish and Dutch.
